Quinta de Chocapalha
Tours and Other Tourism Services
Less than 1 hour from Lisbon, Quinta de Chocapalha is located in the surroundings of Aldeia Galega, close to Alenquer, in the Lisbon Wine Region. It is a family project, and every member is involved in creating the spirit of this project. It all started in 1987 when Alice and Paulo were looking for a property where they could create the project of their family and produce wine of great quality.
Quinta de Chocapalha has been mentioned since the 16th century for its excellent vineyards and wines. It belonged, from the beginnings of the 16th century, to Constantine O`Neil, who later donated it to Diogo Duff, an esteemed Scottish noble whom King John VI awarded with the insignia "Tower and Sword".
Quinta de Chocapalha remained in the possession of the Duff family until the eighties of the last century, when Alice and Paulo Tavares da Silva acquired it. There was almost everything to be done and they immediately started the necessary improvements to change Quinta Chocapalha to what it is today.
The existing buildings had to be restructured and the 45 ha of vineyards to be replanted, introducing new cultivation techniques as well as in the cellar where modern methods started to be applied in order to give continuity to the old traditions of this vineyard, always in search of improvements in quality and prestige of its wines.
Only in the 2000, when the vines reached the desired maturity and quality, one of the owner’s daughter, Sandra Tavares da Silva, challenged her parents to produce wine with own labels of the best grapes produced at the property.
For us wine is culture and identity. At Quinta de Chocapalha, agriculture is considered an extremely noble activity that elevates everyone who embraces such a project.
Wine offers moments of pleasure and happiness, inspires the way of welcoming; therefore the enotourism gives us the possibility to show who we are and what nature gives us as well as sharing the beauty of this piece of land.
